About the Event
We're so excited to explore this exhibition together with UT Downtown Gallery, and will be joined virtually by exhibition curator & founder of Black Women in Print, Tanekeya Word! Plan for an evening that includes a full gallery walkthrough, community conversation & locally made refreshments!
About the Artist:
Tanekeya Word creates multimedia visual art on paper: drawings, paintings, narrative forms, and fine art prints that center the everyday fantastical lives of Black women and girls. Presented in quotidian object scale, no larger than the human body, her works are serialized with a focus on Black interiority, material culture, nature, and subaltern mappings in harmony with the body.
Word is the founder of Black Women of Print, a homeplace for Black women printmakers. She holds a B.A. in English/Afro-American Studies from Howard University and an M.A. in Arts Management from American University.
Word is part of an upcoming exhibition at UT Downtown Gallery by Black Women of Print featuring work by: Deborah Grayson, Karen J. Revis, Stephanie Santana, LaToya Hobbs, Althea Murphy-Price, and TaneKeya Word. Click here for more information about the exhibition, events, and other opportunities to engage with Black Women In Print! This exhibition will be available from August 30 – October 17, 2024.
