The Bottom’s new reading and research room is inspired and guided by the work of Elandria Williams – organizer, activist, and leader. Elandria's work focused on African American and LGBTQ+ history, art and culture in the Appalachian region.

About the Event
The Reading and Research Room provides access to a collection of literature that documents the Black experience in Knoxville and the surrounding Appalachian areas and also showcases literature surrounding religion, cultural arts, gender identity, and socioeconomics. The room also houses printers and computers, all resources for public use. The two-hour-long event will include selected readings from the room orated by award-winning wordsmith and nationally acclaimed motivational poet Rhea Carmon, also known as ‘RheaSunshine’.
